🚨 RMN Foundation Case Report

Bisleri’s Corporate Negligence Poses Public Health Risk

Date: June 2025
Reported by: Rakesh Raman, Founder, RMN Foundation

🧪 Overview: Suspected Contaminated Water Supply

In June 2025, RMN Foundation received a complaint from its founder and journalist, Rakesh Raman, regarding a serious issue of suspected contamination in Bisleri-branded bottled water. The complaint raises significant concerns about consumer health and corporate accountability in India’s bottled water market.

Despite Bisleri’s brand prominence, its response to the issue was delayed, dismissive, and failed to address the core concern: ensuring the purity of water supplied to consumers.

⚠️ Health Risk to Consumers

The reported symptoms included bad taste and potential digestive illness after consuming Bisleri’s water, suggesting a possible breach in water purification and bottling protocols. When consumers trust a reputed brand for safe drinking water, such issues raise alarms about widespread exposure to health hazards — particularly in cities like Delhi, where municipal water is often unfit for drinking.

This raises a fundamental human rights concern: Access to clean and safe water is a basic right, and Bisleri appears to be violating it.

❌ Pattern of Corporate Negligence

Rakesh Raman reached out to Bisleri on June 12, 2025, via email, requesting:

  • An explanation of how consumers can test the purity of Bisleri water.
  • A clear, public process to verify water quality on the company’s website.
  • A resolution timeline and accountability for potentially adulterated supplies.

Bisleri responded only with:

  • A vague automated acknowledgment.
  • A perfunctory phone call request for a bottle cap image.
  • No proper follow-up or tangible resolution.

To date, Bisleri has not published any method for consumers to verify water purity, nor has it shown seriousness in addressing complaints.

💰 Price vs. Purity Paradox

Bisleri charges ₹105 for a 20-litre jar, but local sources suggest dishonest distributors may be refilling bottles from unsafe sources for as little as ₹12–15 per jar. This stark contrast between price and possible quality raises concerns about consumer exploitation and supply chain malpractice.

Bisleri appears to depend heavily on local delivery agents, potentially turning a blind eye to malpractices to protect its distribution network.

🛑 RMN Foundation’s Call to Action

As a charity organization committed to public health and civic rights, RMN Foundation urges:

  1. Immediate investigation into Bisleri’s distribution and quality assurance processes.
  2. Public availability of water purity certification or testing methods.
  3. Oversight by regulatory bodies including Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and consumer protection authorities.
  4. Stronger frameworks for holding corporations accountable for endangering public health.

📢 Final Note

RMN Foundation will continue to monitor and report on this issue while seeking systemic changes in how consumer complaints are handled in India. We stand with citizens who demand their right to safe drinking water, transparency, and corporate responsibility.
