President Biden Should Provide Special Visa to Human Rights Defenders

The second Summit for Democracy is an opportunity to demonstrate through tangible action the United States’ commitment to democracy and human rights globally.

The U.S. President Joe Biden should create a new visa category to allow entry to persecuted human rights defenders into the United States. In his letter of February 14, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has urged President Biden to protect human rights activists who face threats in their countries. read more

Indian voters should not blindly follow any politician because most of the politicians in all political parties are crooks.

OPENING STATEMENT

Today, India is standing at the crossroads where the country’s 1.4 billion people are facing a grave threat from their own political rulers who have been exploiting the sentiment of people for the past seven decades after India got independence from the Britishers in 1947.

While almost all politicians here are corrupt – many are facing serious criminal charges – they have been winning elections by dividing voters on the basis of their caste, creed, color, and religious affiliations. Elections are also being won by bribing the voters, intimidating them, or by tampering with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Also, the autocratic rulers frequently purchase legislators in horse-trading deals to steal elections and form governments unscrupulously. read more

As the Lok Sabha Election is scheduled to happen in India during 2019, I have launched an exclusive online editorial section for voter education. It sheds light on the political as well as democratic status in the country.

As I have been studying various aspects of democracy and election processes, I find that the current political system in India is totally flawed. In order to reform this system, I am working on the development of a new competence-based political / governance model for India.

After extensive study and research, I have found that the current democratic system needs a complete overhaul. I have presented my initial findings in the form of a consultative paper that you can download. You are encouraged to study it and circulate it among others.
